Common Cartridge converter
Common Cartridge is a formatting standard that ensures content works across systems that support it. Schoology follows this standard, and IMS Global’s website outlines its compliance.
Schoology offers a Common Cartridge converter that upgrades v1.1 packages to v1.2. Use it to migrate content from other systems using v1.1 directly into your Schoology resources.
How to use the Common Cartridge converter
In your legacy LMS, export your course as a Common Cartridge (.imscc) file.
Go to https://cc-converter.schoology.com/
Upload the Common Cartridge package (.imscc) that you downloaded from your legacy LMS course. The converter processes the Common Cartridge package and downloads a new version ready for upload into Schoology.
The newly converted file will always be named “converted-common-cartridge.imscc.” Be sure to rename this file to keep them organized.
Navigate to your resources in Schoology.
Select Import.
Choose to import a Common Cartridge (.imscc) file as a new collection.
Name the collection, and then select Next.
Attach the converted .imscc file from your computer or device, and then select Next.
Some folders within the Common Cartridge package may contain web content. If the folder contains an HTML file, the converter displays the folder structure and lets you select the folder. To skip conversion, select Skip & Import to bring the files in as regular files and folders.
To convert to web content item types, click Convert.
Click Import to complete. Depending on the size of your file, the import process may take some time to complete. You can track the status of the import from your Transfer History.

*Refer to the following note on importing test or quiz content into Schoology.
Browser information:
Use the Common Cartridge converter in the latest version of Chrome or Firefox, or in Safari version 11.1 or higher.
The Common Cartridge converter does not work in Microsoft Edge.
Content limitations:
Content from your legacy LMS that is not organized into modules will display in an Unused Resources folder in Schoology after import.
Imported assignments and pages in the Unused Resources folder include “.html” at the end of the title. Rename them in Schoology after import.
Embedded images, media, or files in rich-text descriptions won’t fully convert during import to Schoology. They’ll display in the Unused Resources folder of the Files section, and instructors must manually re-embed them into the content descriptions.
Content or question types not specified in the previous table will not be imported into Schoology. For example:
Certain quiz question types, like formula or numerical answer, won’t import into Schoology.
Point values for quiz questions default to one point after import.
Files attached to discussions do not import into Schoology.
