PowerBuddy chat (parents)
PowerBuddy for Learning is an AI helper for your student’s schoolwork. When a teacher enables PowerBuddy for an assignment, students can ask questions about the topic to help them learn, or choose topic suggestions to explore their interests more. PowerBuddy gives students information and tips about their assignment topic and helps keep students on-topic based on the assignment title, description, and topic context. Additionally, content filters ensure that the discussion remains appropriate for students.
Open PowerBuddy
If your student’s teacher enables PowerBuddy, it will be available when your student opens the assignment.
Select the PowerBuddy logo.
In the chat, ask questions or choose a prompt.
Optionally, if your student’s microphone is enabled in the browser, click the microphone icon in the chat to convert your student’s speech to text. Click the play icon to have a message read aloud.
If your student selects Quiz me, PowerBuddy will quiz them on the assignment topic. If your student isn’t sure of the correct answer, they can select Hint or Step-by-step to get additional help to choose the correct answer. If your student chooses the wrong answer, PowerBuddy will provide information to help them better understand the topic.
Review previous chats
Your student’s PowerBuddy chats are recorded. As a guardian, you can access your student’s chat history. Reviewing the chat history for an assignment can be helpful if students want to review the information and explanations PowerBuddy provided.
Chat records are available to you in Schoology for 60 days. Older chat records are stored in case school officials need to refer to them later.
From your profile, toggle to access your student’s account.
From your student’s home page, select Access chat history.
On the Chat history page, select the chat you want to review.
Optionally, you can download an individual conversation using one of the following options:
Select the Download icon (down arrow) for the conversation.
Open the conversation and select Download.
Flagged PowerBuddy chats
As your student’s PowerBuddy chats are recorded, any chats that contain inappropriate content, including violent topics or profanity, are flagged for review by your student’s teachers, school officials, and administrators.
Restrict student access to PowerBuddy
If you are uncomfortable with your student having access to PowerBuddy, you can request that the administrator restrict access for your student. Restricted students will not have access to launch PowerBuddy, even if PowerBuddy is enabled for an assignment.
