Notifications
The notification feature is a comprehensive alert system designed for MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) interventions that allows administrators and users to stay informed about important activities. The system operates on two levels: administrators can configure district-wide required notifications that all users must receive, while individual users can customize their personal notification preferences for additional alerts and mark certain notifications as important. Notifications are triggered by specific user actions such as adding staff members to interventions, adding notes, or managing students, with most alerts delivering immediately except for student-related actions which are delayed by 10 minutes to allow for aggregation of multiple actions into single notifications. Users receive these alerts through a persistent bell icon available in the top navigation on all platform pages, can mark notifications as read or unread, and are automatically directed to relevant content pages when clicking on alerts, with the system maintaining a 60-day notification history.

Notification Triggering
Notifications are triggered by specific user actions (e.g., adding staff to interventions, adding notes)
Different user roles can trigger different notifications
System follows predefined logic of trigger scenarios
Notification Scenario | Who performs action? | Action performed | Receiver |
Add staff in an intervention | Admin + staff | Assign at least one new staff to an intervention from the intervention details page | The newly added staff member |
Add students to an intervention | Staff | Assign at least one new student to an intervention | Staff assigned to the intervention |
Remove students from intervention | Staff | Remove at least one student from an intervention | Staff assigned to the intervention |
Add public note to intervention | Staff | Add a public note to an intervention notes section | Staff assigned to the intervention |
Reply to staff note | Staff | Another staff member views a note you posted and replies | Staff who posted original note |
Update intervention schedule | Admin | Modify the intervention schedule details (time, date, frequency, etc) | Staff assigned to the intervention |
Mark an intervention as completed | Staff | Update intervention status to completed | Staff assigned to the intervention |
Notification Delivery
Most notifications deliver immediately
Student-related notifications (adding/removing students from interventions) have a 10-minute delay. Delay allows the system to aggregate multiple student actions into single notifications
Notification Aggregation
When multiple students are added within the delay period, system combines the notifications. Instead of 10 separate notifications, users receive one aggregated notification
Example: "10 students added to intervention"
Receiving Notifications
Notifications appear in bell icon (present on all pages)
Blue dot indicates unread notifications
Users can manually mark a notification as read/unread by clicking the blue dot area
"Mark all as read" option is available
Accessing Notification Content
Clicking a notification directs the user to the corresponding page.
New content is prominently highlighted on the destination page.
The notification is automatically marked as read upon being clicked.
Notification Management
The system displays a notification history spanning 60 days.
Notifications older than this period are not displayed.
Users have the option to toggle the read/unread status as required.
Note: Currently, the Notifications feature is limited to MTSS interventions, and users without MTSS access experience an empty notification state. Additionally, only administrators have access to the District Configuration settings.
