Student Narrative

Student ID

The student's code or ID number for the SIS system. This is padded with proceeding zeros to seven positions (e.g., 82901 becomes 0082901).

Dimension

Age

The student's age in years - computed from Birthdate. This is the current age of an Active student, and the age at withdrawal date if Inactive.

Status

A high-level status grouping: Active, Pre-Enrolled, Expelled, Transferred-Out, Graduated, etc.

Dimension

Ethnicity

The student's primary racial background: American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian/Pacific Islander, Black, Hispanic, Unknown/Unspecified, White.

Current School

School name where the student is currently enrolled - Beechcroft High School, Welcome Center at North, Prof. Inst. Walnut Ridge Hs, etc.  Use in reports & analyses only as a student attribute - enrollment fact data should be used for student profiles.

Grade

The student's grade level.

Current Cumulative GPA

The student's cumulative GPA calculated and frozen from the previous school year.  This is the unweighted GPA.

Mobility

The number of times a student has changed schools during the past 365 days (past 12 months).

ELL

Indicates whether the student is currently active in an English as a Second Language program (Yes or No)?  If the student is withdrawn and was participating in ESL at the time of withdrawing then they will be set to Yes.

Language

The student's primary language:  English, Spanish, Hmong, Urdu, etc.  The default of null to English is in synch with most State Reporting.

SPED

Indicates (Yes/No) whether the student is currently receiving special education services (either in regular classroom or special ed unit).

Absence Reason

The primary reason for the absence.  The primary reason is the one assigned if both morning & afternoon absence reasons matched, or if only a single reason was assigned for the morning or afternoon, or the morning reason if morning & afternoon reasons differ.  If a class spans 2 or 3 periods it will typically have 2 or 3 absence entries (one for each period) and the reason could potentially vary and the primary reason would be the most cited one.  Typical values include Unexcused, Medical, Athletic, NA (Not Applicable), etc.  Reasons can (and often do) vary by School.

The term number for the related school (1, 2, 3, etc.). Note that dates outside the defined term are set to Term of 0.

Code to indicate the type of attendance day for this student on this date:  FD = Full Day Absence, AM = AM Only Absence, PM = PM Absence Only, LF = Late AM & PM, LA = Late AM Only, LP = Late PM Only and PR = Present   Note:  If ABSENT_CODE and ABSENT_CODE are both Null then the student will not be considered absent (even though their is an elem_attendances record) and the attendance_type will be set to PR.

Membership Days

The number of school days in which the student was a member of this program based loosely upon the start and end dates defined in the student system.  The number is calculated using the school calendar for either the program school or the Administrative school if no school was assigned.  Weekends and holidays are excluded as are dates outside the school year ()summer).

Program Name

The descriptive names for the programs as defined in the student information system. Title I Reading, Alternative Lottery, ESL Pullout, etc.

Status

Indicates if the status of the student's program membership:  Pending if the start date is later than today; Expired is the end date is prior to today and Active if today is between the start and end date of the program assignment.  The status will be set to Deleted if that record is removed from the Student Information System.

Academic Standard Mastery

The percentage of students at each mastery level for district-defined standard groups.
