Single SMS Opt-in (International)

If your district has decided to use SMS, you must obtain and document recipient consent to receive text messages outside of Communicate. It is best to capture this permission in writing before sending any broadcast text messages. Once you have obtained consent, those recipients will automatically be opted in when their data is imported. After they receive their Welcome text, no further action is required from them to opt in, and they can begin receiving text messages.

Opt-in

  1. Confirm with your district or school that they’ve acquired consent from recipients.

  2. Notify your community that text messaging is coming and on what date it will begin.

  3. Confirm with SchoolMessenger Solutions Support that they are scheduled to map and import the SMS phone number data into your account.

  4. Contact data is imported into Communicate. All recipients will then receive their Welcome messages during normal business hours or the following morning.
The SchoolMessenger Opt-In Welcome text will look like this:
DISTRICT NAME alerts. Your school has registered you for SMS alerts. Msg&data rates
may apply. Msg freq varies. schoolmessenger.com/txt”

Opt-out

Recipients wishing to opt out of receiving text messages can simply do one of the following:

  1. Request that your school’s Communicate system administrator add the number to the account’s phone number block list.

  2. Opt-out online at http://schoolmessenger.com/txt . Scroll to the bottom of the page to fill out the unsubscribe form.
