Accessing iOS Mobile App as a Parent

The Schoology mobile app is designed to provide access to only certain features or settings. For features and settings not available on the app, you can use a computer or the browser on your device.

If you don’t already have an account on Schoology, you must sign up from a mobile browser at www.schoology.com.

  1. Tap Sign Up.
  2. Select Parent.
  3. Enter the access code provided by your child's instructor and click Continue.
  4. Enter your First and Last Name, an email address or username, and a password for your account.
  5. Click Register to complete.

Enterprise schools may or may not allow users to register on their own. Contact your child's teacher with any questions on this process.

If you already have a Schoology account, you can use the steps outlined below to log in via the Schoology iOS app.

Click the link at the bottom of the page for a printable version of these instructions.

To create a new Schoology account, you'll need to open a mobile browser on your device and go to www.schoology.com.

If your school does not currently include parents in its authentication service, you must select Continue to log in through www.schoology.com (see Login Option 2 below) when logging into the mobile app. If your school does include parents in its single sign-on (SSO) process, follow Login Option 1 and select the school.

If you don't know if your school includes parents in its authentication service, contact your school's Support Contact to find out.

Log in to the Schoology Mobile App

Depending on the type of account you have (Schoology Enterprise or Basic) and how your organization has set up your account, there are various login methods for the Schoology mobile app.

Identify the login scenario outlined below that applies to you and click the link to jump to that specific part of the article.

Check with your child's instructor or one of the Support Contacts at the school if you are uncertain of your organization’s login setup.

Enterprise

Basic

  • Log in via email address
  • Log in via email address
  • Log in via username
  • Log in via username
  • Log in via custom domain

  • Log in via single sign-on (SSO)

  • Log in via QR code

Login Option 1

For Enterprise users logging in via:

  • Email
  • Username
  • Custom domain

For Basic users logging in via

  • Email
  • Username

To log in with your existing account, open the Schoology app on your mobile device.

  1. Tap Find your school or domain to log in through your school or district.
  2. To Find your school or domain, use the keyboard to enter the name of your school or organization. As you type, matching choices populate in the list. If your school uses a custom domain (URL) on the web version, you can enter the domain in the search field.
  3. Tap the name of your school or organization when it displays.
  4. Enter the Username or Email associated with your account. If you can't remember the username or email address, check with your child's instructor or one of the Support Contacts at the school.
  5. Enter the password for your account. You can reset the password if you open https://app.schoology.com/login/forgot from a mobile browser.
  6. Tap LOG IN to complete.

Once you log out of the Schoology app, the same school or organization displays as the default the next time someone opens the app on the mobile device. This makes it easier to log in on your own device.

Tap the arrow to continue to login through your saved school. To change the school or organization to log into, tap the search field, and begin typing the new name. Matching choices will populate as you type.

For Enterprise users logging in via

  • Single sign-on (SSO)

To log in with your existing account, open the Schoology app on your mobile device.

Parents that are not included in the school’s single sign-on (SSO) method should choose to Log in through www.schoology.com.

  1. Tap Find your school or domain to log in through your school or district.
  2. To Find your school or domain, use the keyboard to enter the name of your school or organization. As you type, matching choices populate in the list. Organizations using single sign-on login have a green dot displayed next to their title.
  3. Tap the name of your school or organization when it displays. The SSO login screen displays automatically. If you use Google SSO, skip to the fifth step.
  4.  Enter the username or email address and password associated with your account to complete login. If you can't remember your login credentials, check with one of your Support Contacts.

Follow the remaining steps if you use Google SSO. Selecting your school in Step 3 directs you to this login screen:

Tap Log in through your School to continue to the login page.

If you use Google SSO to log in to Schoology, do not tap Log in using Schoology.com; this takes you to a Schoology email and password login page instead of the Google login screen. Users who are not part of the organization’s SSO can choose this option instead.

6. If this is your first time signing in, enter the email address connected to your Schoology account. If you’ve previously signed in on the device, tap the name of the auto-populated account that you use to sign in to Schoology.

If you select the wrong account in this window, you will have to close the Schoology app and log out of the incorrect Google account from the internet browser on your mobile device before you can complete the login process.

7. Enter your password and tap Next.

This will log you into both your Google account and into Schoology. If you sign in using an SSO and are using a shared device, be sure to log out of your account on the mobile browser when you log out of Schoology. For example, if you use a Google SSO, navigate to Google on a mobile browser and log out of your Google account. Logging out of Schoology will not log you out of your Google account.

8. Tap Approve to authorize the Schoology mobile app to access your Schoology account. Click Deny if you do not want to authorize the app. You will not be able to use the mobile app until you have approved the app to access your account. The next time someone opens the Schoology app on the mobile device, the same school or organization displays as the default, including your SSO screen. This makes it easier to log in on your own device and is useful if your school uses shared devices.

If you sign in using an SSO and are using a shared device, be sure to log out of your account on the mobile browser when you log out of Schoology. For example, if you use a Google SSO, navigate to Google on a mobile browser and log out of your Google account. Logging out of Schoology will not log you out of your Google account.

Tap the arrow to continue to login through your saved school. To change the school or organization to log into, tap the search field, and begin typing the new name. Matching choices will populate as you type.

Login Option 2

These requests are for your personal parent account. It's not possible to view requests your child receives.

My Children

The My Children view within the iOS app is where parents can view the courses, groups, grades, and attendance for their child. Similar to the Student Activity View on the web version of Schoology, this area displays a preview of how your child(ren) can view their Schoology information.
Note: The My Children area on the Schoology iOS app uses a WebView. In other words, this area appears like an embedded mobile browser view within the app.

Select My Children from the navigation menu to access your child's activity. From My Children, you can switch between the Student Activity and Enrollments view on the home page.

Use the menu in the header to access your child's Courses, Groups, Grades, and Calendar.

On smaller screens (for example, iPhone or portrait view on iPad), the Grades area is accessed by tapping More in the header.

Additional Children

Additional children associated with your account can be accessed from the iOS app in the same way as the web version. From the My Children view, tap your child's name in the upper-right corner and select additional children from the drop-down menu.

On smaller screens, tap More in the header and select your child from the drop-down menu. You can toggle between child views from the next menu.

Viewing Child Submissions

Access your child's submissions from the following areas:

  • Courses: Navigate to any of your child's courses from the Courses header in the My Children view and select any course material.
  • Recent Grades/Attendance: Use the panel to the right of My Children to access any submitted and graded materials (on larger screens only).

Assignment Submissions

The My Children area for parents using the Schoology iOS app uses a WebView. In other words, this area appears like an embedded mobile browser view within the app. Files uploaded to the Schoology Document Viewer in Assignments can be accessed via this WebView or parents can opt to access an optimized view of the assignment which displays the submission natively, within the app.

Devices must run iOS 14 2020-10-4 and above in order to access the optimized submission view.

Tap the link at the top of the submission to see an optimized view of your child's submission.

The submission is displayed in-app instead of a WebView.
