Add course members

Overview

Add members to a course section by distributing the course access code, using Add Members (enterprise only) or importing enrollments (enterprise only).

Some options may not be available depending on the settings at your school or organization. Contact your System Administrator with questions.

These features are not supported in courses containing more than 10,000 members:

  • Gradebook

  • Grade Setup

  • Badges

  • Mastery

  • Media Album tags

Course access codes

Distribute a 13-digit access code to students so they can register for Schoology. Students with existing Schoology accounts can use the access code to join your course without creating a new account. Navigate to the Members page of a course profile to retrieve the access code.

Students can register by going to app.schoology.com/register.

Reset the access code

If your access code is used by more than your students, navigate to the Members page and reset the code. The old code will no longer be valid. Students already enrolled in the course will remain enrolled.

Require approval

Manually approve new members before they can join the course, even if using the access code.

  1. Navigate to a course and select Members.

  2. Select Require Approval.

Use Add Members (enterprise only)

  1. Navigate to a course and select Members.

  2. Click Add Members.

  3. Optionally, select the member's location from the list if your organization has multiple schools or buildings.

  4. Choose the members to enroll in the course. Continue to search or browse users without affecting previously selected members.

  5. For students without an account, enable Send Access Code Via Email.

  6. Click Add Members.

If you are an instructor at an Enterprise school, your school may provision student accounts and enrollments via an automatic sync with your student information system or an auto-import at the system level. If enrollments at your school are handled via the sync, manually enrolled students may be removed from the course during the sync if they are not also enrolled in the course in your SIS. Check with your system administrator on best practices for enrolling students.

Import enrollments (Enterprise only)

Enterprise users can import enrollments at the system level using a CSV file.

Depending on which student information system (SIS) is used, you may be able to import users, courses, and enrollments via an SIS sync. Contact your Schoology representative to learn more about automated options.
