AMP Starter Items

Overview

AMP Starter Items contain a set of items that cover the ELA and Math Common Core Standards for K-12. The items can be added to managed assessments in AMP as Assessments Teams build out assessments for distribution in school buildings. AMP Starter Items are included in the menu to associate question banks with an AMP-managed assessment.

Add Starter Items to a managed assessment

  1. Select AMP and choose Assessment Teams.

  2. Select the title of a managed assessment.

  3. Click From Question Banks and select AMP Starter Items to launch the item bank.

  4. To search for items, choose search criteria and click New Search. Review criteria details in the Search criteria details table.

    • For an item to be displayed in the search results, it must match all search criteria.

    • If no items are returned in the search results, remove some criteria and try again.

  5. The Common Core State Standards metatag is not included in Starter Items. Contact your Schoology representative if you require this metatag for your assessments.

  6. Optionally, click the item's reference number title to preview the item. From the item preview, review the item, click Show Answers to display the correct answer, and click Add to Assessment if desired.

  7. Select the start items and click Add to Assessment.

  8. Optionally, return to your search results or create a new search.

  9. Click the X to exit AMP Starter Items and return to the managed assessment.

After the items have been added to the managed assessment, you can set the possible points per item, rearrange the assessment items, make it active, and distribute it to courses.

Search by learning objective

Use the AMP Starter Items by Learning Objectives Report to identify which learning objectives have starter items aligned for use. The report lists the learning objective reference. If the learning objective is not listed, then there are no starter items aligned to that standard.

When you locate the learning objective in the report, enter the reference in the Select Learning Objective search field. Select the objective from the list and click New Search.

Search by reference ID

You can search for items by using the item reference ID, such as ELA.RL.9-10.1.0006. A reference ID is assigned to each learning objective in the item bank. Alternatively, search via the Learning Objective reference endpoint. For example, if you want to search for CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.1, you can search by RL.9-10.1 in the Reference ID field.

Search by keyword

Enter a keyword from the question or passage, and search for similar items using the Keyword search.

Edit Starter Items

You cannot edit AMP Starter Items. You can edit the point value of the items in your managed assessment, but the question-and-answer setup cannot be edited.

Preview Starter Items

Click the item’s reference ID title to preview items directly from the AMP Starter Items bank. The question, answer, and aligned learning objectives are displayed in this preview area.

After the items are added to the assessment, you can also preview the items from managed assessment page. This preview displays the items as the student view only. It is not possible to display the answer or the aligned learning objectives from this area. The preview area is only available to AMP administrators, and it is not an option at the course level.
