Assessment question types: overview | PowerSchool Learning and Engagement

Schoology assessments support a variety of question types to evaluate student learning. Before adding questions, you must create an assessment from the Add Materials menu within a course or Resources.

To create a question in an assessment, click Questions and select a question type.

There is a limit of 200 questions per assessment.

Question types

The following question types are available for Assessments.

Standard question types

Standard question type	Description
Multiple choice	Students select one or more correct answers from a list of options.
True/false	Students determine whether a statement is true or false.
Matching	Students pair prompts with their corresponding answers.
Ordering	Students arrange items in the correct sequence.
Fill in the blank text	Students type answers directly into blank text fields.
Short answer/essay	Students provide written responses; supports rubrics.
Audio	Students record and submit audio responses.
Video	Students record and submit video responses.

Enhanced question types

Enhanced question type	Description
Fill in the blank dropdown	Students select an answer from a drop-down list for each blank.
Fill in the blank drag and drop	Students drag and drop answers into blanks from a pool of options.
File upload	Students attach files to their submission.
Label image	Students drag labels to the correct positions on an uploaded image.
Highlight hotspot	Students click predefined regions on an image; supports auto-grading.
Highlight image	Students draw on an image; not automatically scored.
Highlight text	Students select words, sentences, or paragraphs in a passage.
Math short answer	Open-ended questions that accept mathematical symbols and equations.
Number line	Students drag points to positions on a number line.
Chart	Students review, create, or manipulate bar or histogram charts.

Alternate answer types

While creating assessment questions, you can set up multiple correct answers for a question in the Correct Answer Setup and configure additional choices to receive partial credit.

Additional answer setup options cannot be configured after submissions have been made to the assessment.
