Learning objectives
Overview
Learning objectives are sets of knowledge, skills, or behaviors that learners are expected to know, understand, and perform as a result of learning. They can be measured to determine the knowledge (cognitive) or skills and behaviors (affective) that learners have gained over time.
Learning objectives are available with Classic Mastery, not District Mastery.
Types of learning objectives
In Schoology, you can align materials to the following learning objectives.
Learning objectives | Details |
---|---|
Custom Learning Objective | Provided by you or your school (Enterprise) |
Common Core | Provided by the Common Core State Standards Initiative |
Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) | Provided by Achieve, Inc |
ACTFL Standards for Foreign Language Learning | Provided by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages |
College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education | Provided by the Literacy Information and Communication System (LINCS) |
AERO (American Education Reaches Out) Curriculum Frameworks | Provided by the U.S. State Department's Office of Overseas Schools as part of Project AERO |
State Standards | Provided by the Common Core State Standards Initiative, but learning objectives are state-specific |
Common Core, NGSS, ACTFL Standards for Foreign Language Learning, College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education, AERO Curriculum Frameworks, and State Standards are consistently updated in Schoology. Learning objective titles with a year indicate the original publication date, not the most recent update.
Assign learning objectives to materials
Navigate to a course and create or edit a material or resource template.
From Learning Objectives, click Align.
Depending on the Personal, Group, and School learning objectives available, select a category and choose from the available learning objectives.
Since learning objectives are customizable and may be unique to a party, you cannot attach them to Public Resources, which are resources shared globally with Schoology users.
Custom learning objectives
Add personal learning objectives only available to you. They cannot be shared with other users. Organize your earning objectives by personal, group, or school.
Existing objectives within Schoology, such as Common Core or State Standards, should not be recreated as custom objectives without adding a unique identifier or character to the title.
Custom learning objectives are not available in Schoology Basic.
