Midterms and finals
Overview
Set any test, quiz, assignment, assessment, or graded discussion as a midterm or final. This affects how the gradebook displays the item and how the item’s grade is calculated in the course.
Set an item as midterm or final
When creating or editing an item, select Set as midterm/final.
Assign the grading period based on how you want to weigh the grade.
To weigh against sub-periods, select the parent grading period from the Period list.
To weigh against all grading periods, select No Grading Period from the Period list.
You cannot assign a midterm or final item to a grading period that has no sub-periods, or to a sub-period.
Adjust midterm or final weights
Navigate to the course and select Grade Setup.
From Grading Periods & Final Weights, adjust the weight of the midterm or final.
If aligned with sub-periods of a grading period, it is weighted against those sub-periods and calculated into that grading period’s grade.
If aligned with overall grading periods, it is weighted against those grading periods and calculated into the overall course grade.
Reordering a period may change the grading periods against which you’re weighing the midterm or final.
Midterm and finals in the gradebook
To review and edit midterm or final grades, set the grading period to Final/Midterm Material Grades in the Gradebook.
Midterm and finals in the student report
Midterm and final grades are displayed in a student report as you arrange them in Grade Setup.
If weighted against sub-periods, they appear as a sub-period of a grading period.
If weighted against grading periods, they appear as a grading period.
Gradebook export
If Gradebook as CSV is chosen, midterm and final items will have their own column that reflects their titles.
If CSV for import into other system is selected, each item is listed in a separate row, including midterms and finals.
