OneDrive assignments on mobile (instructors)

Overview

On the Schoology mobile app, students can open assignments and launch Microsoft apps directly from Schoology to create their own copies, complete the work, and submit it. Instructors can then review the OneDrive document, provide feedback, and grade the assignment, all from their iOS or Android device.

  • You must use version 4.2 or later of the Schoology iOS mobile app or version 5.1 or later of the Schoology Android app to access assignments created via the OneDrive Assignments app on a mobile device.

  • Creating a new OneDrive assignment on Schoology is currently only supported via the web browser.

  • We recommend downloading the Microsoft mobile apps that you plan to use in conjunction with Schoology if you will access a OneDrive assignment from Schoology on your mobile device.

  • If you are using Schoology assignments simultaneously with Microsoft Teams assignments, disable Teams assignments to avoid repetition between the two platforms.

Student experience

Students can access assignments created via the OneDrive Assignments app from the materials page of their course, as they would any other course material. When students open the assignment, their view will be similar to that of their web browser.

From Assignment, students can review:

  • The due date and time

  • The assignment description

  • A rubric, if one is being used to grade the assignment

From My Document, students can review the assignment and create their own copy of your original file. This copy will be shared between you and the student, and it will be organized in your OneDrive.

Editing the student copy on mobile devices

  1. From the mobile app, tap My Document to access their copy of the file.

  2. Tap the file icon.

  3. To open the file, tap Open in App. The student's file will launch in the Word app, where they can review and edit their copy of the assignment file.

  4. After their work is saved in Word, tap Schoology to return to the Schoology app.

  5. From the Schoology app, tap Submit to submit the Word file to the instructor. After submitting an assignment, the student no longer has edit access to the file.

We recommend enabling the Delete Sign-In Credentials option in the iOS settings for the Word app. If multiple students within the same OneDrive organization are sharing the device, you must enable this option before students can log out or log in on shared devices.

Instructor experience

As an instructor, you have access to three tabs with additional controls and information.

On the Assignment tab, you can review:

  • The assignment's description and due date.

  • A rubric, if one is being used to grade the assignment.

Tap the file icon to open the OneDrive file you selected to create the assignment.

This is the file students use to create their own copies. Edits you make won’t update copies that students have already created — only new copies will include your changes.

From the In Progress and Submissions tabs, select a student from the list and tap their document to launch it in the Microsoft app.

  • You can make edits to the student's document directly within the Microsoft app. Updates will be displayed when you or the student reviews the document.

  • To submit a grade for the student's assignment submission, navigate back to the Schoology app. Tap the total points for the assignment to enter a grade and any comments.
