Preview managed assessment overview

Previewing a managed assessment is an essential tool for instructors and support staff. It allows you to experience the assessment exactly as a student would, without affecting scores or submissions.

• AMP administrators can always preview any managed assessment in AMP.

• Course instructors can preview distributed assessments for their course sections only if the Instructor Preview setting has been enabled by an AMP administrator.

The preview simulates the student experience, including settings and tools such as:

• Assessment settings

  • Time limit

  • Question randomization

  • Possible points

  • Assessment toolbar: Flag for review, eliminate choices, calculator, ruler, protractor

• Student settings

  • Attempt limit is displayed but does not restrict preview attempts

• Submissions cannot be made, and questions cannot be scored during assessment preview. It is a preview of the student experience of taking the test only.

• To check if a question will be scored correctly, continue to use the question-level preview functionality in the question editor in the AMP question bank.

• If a short answer or essay question has a rubric that is available to students, the rubric will not be displayed in the preview.

Preview managed assessments in AMP

Managed assessments can be previewed in draft, active, or retired status.

1. Select AMP and choose Assessment Teams.

2. Select the title of a managed assessment.

3. Click Preview.

4. Click Start New Attempt to preview the assessment exactly as a student would, including any tools or settings that would impact the student experience. The attempt limit will display but has no impact on the number of times the assessment can be previewed.

   

5. Click Review on the last question to navigate to the screen where a student can submit their attempt.

6. Click Finish to complete the student workflow.

7. Click Close Preview or the X to close the preview experience and return to the assessment.

   

Preview managed assessments in course sections

To allow previewing:

• AMP administrators must set the Instructor Preview to Yes on the distributed assessment.

• Instructors can then navigate to the assessment in the section, open Assessment Details, and click Preview.

1. Navigate to a course.

2. From Materials, select the managed assessment.

3. From Assessment Details, click Preview to launch the same experience as in the AMP preview.
