Print assessments
Overview
Instructors can print and manage assessments directly from their courses. Printing provides flexibility for administering assessments and supports students who need accommodations.
Refer to the article Scanning Paper Assessments (AMP only) for more information on scanning printed assessments for auto-grading submissions.
Alternatively, instructors can record student results manually using Observational Grading for Assessments.
Print an assessment from a course
Assessments and managed assessments can be printed from within a course by opening the assessment.
Navigate to a course.
From the assessment, click Actions and choose Print Assessment.

From Print Format Options, select a page layout and choose to print an answer key. These settings must be selected every time an assessment is printed.

Click Confirm to open a new tab with a preview of the printable assessment. From the preview, you can use your browser settings to print, save as a PDF, or take screenshots.
The in-app preview does not show page breaks. Use your browser’s print settings to view accurate page breaks.
Information included in the printed assessment
Each printed assessment includes:
Course name
Instructor name
Assessment name
Assessment instructions
Fields for the date and student name or ID
A total score box displaying total possible points and space for the student’s final score
Each question prompt and response options

You can download a sample PDF of a printed assessment from the attachment below.
The Randomize Question Order setting is not supported when printing assessments.
Answer keys for printed assessments
You can choose to print an answer key with the assessment. The key reflects the primary correct answer setup for each question. To review other versions of the correct answer setup, open the question setup in Schoology.

Record scores for a printed assessment
After students complete a printed assessment, you can record scores in several ways:
Enter an overall grade manually.
Grade the paper test and enter the total score into Schoology from the Attempts tab or directly in the Gradebook.
Enter question-level scores manually.
Grade each question on paper and enter the scores in Schoology.
Not available for managed assessments (AMP), since instructors cannot override automatically graded questions.
Enter student responses.
Input each response into Schoology to automatically calculate question and overall scores, as if the student took the assessment online.
Combine methods.
Use any mix of the above options.
