Image use

The following image uploading best practices can help ensure your item interactions display quickly and accurately on tests.

PowerSchool recommends using lowercase image names.

Image file types and size

Older browsers do not support images with transparent backgrounds. To avoid issues, convert any images with transparent backgrounds to JPEG files.

Images uploaded to Performance Matters must be one of the following file types:

  • .png (recommended file type for Graphic Gap Match interaction)

  • .jpeg/.jpg

  • .gif

To ensure short display times and optimum display regardless of the screen or device, image files should not exceed 6 MB.

Add images to interactions

There are three ways to add an image when you create items in Performance Matters. Your method depends on the purpose and frequency of the image's use.

Single-use images

If you only want to use the image for one item or rubric, with or without accompanying content, you can insert the image directly into the text field.

  1. From the main navigation menu, choose Items, then click New Item (Redesigned)

  2. Click within the text field where you want the image to display.

  3. Select Add an image in the text editor.

  4. Browse to select the image file.

Standalone images with multiple uses

If you want to use a standalone image in multiple items, you must create an image resource. To use an image resource, select Insert image resource in the text editor.

Images in passage with multiple use

If you want to use an image in a passage in multiple items, you must create a passage resource. To use a passage resource, click Insert passage resource in the text editor.

Add image to a passage resource

The process for adding an image to a passage resource is slightly different than adding an image to items and rubrics.

  1. To create a passage resource, choose Items from the main navigation menu, then click New Resource.

  2. Click From File System, then select Edit.

  3. Select Add Image from the toolbar

  4. Select Upload.

  5. Click Add an Image.

  6. Browse to select the image file.

  7. Make any needed image adjustments on the Image Info tab.

  8. Click OK.

Adjust image properties

To adjust image properties, double-click the image in the text entry field. You can adjust the image alt text, width, height, border, and spacing. Larger images automatically re-size to fit the screen.

For images to display correctly in an exported PDF test, the width cannot exceed 675 pixels.
