eSchoolPlus SIS Attendance app

The eSchoolPlus student information system (SIS) Attendance app allows instructors to take attendance in Schoology using eSchoolPlus SIS Attendance tools. Attendance entered in Schoology is shared with eSchoolPlus SIS in real time with no sync required.

  • The eSchoolPlus SIS Attendance app replaces Schoology Attendance in all SIS-synced courses. Students and parents do not have access to Attendance after the app is installed.

  • The eSchoolPlus SIS Attendance app is not supported on the Schoology mobile apps. Instructors may use the mobile browser instead.

Requirements

  • eSchoolPlus SIS version 21.4.8 or later.

  • Users, buildings, courses, sections, and terms must be provisioned in Schoology using the eSchoolPlus SIS app.

  • For Mac users, macOS Catalina and above are supported only. Users on older macOS versions should upgrade or use Firefox or Safari.

  • Review attendance and Manage attendance permissions must be enabled for the organization at the system level in Schoology.

Installation

The eSchoolPlus SIS app must already be configured for the district before installing the eSchoolPlus SIS Attendance app. System administrators must also activate the LTI client Schoology in eSchoolPlus before proceeding.

To install or remove this app, refer to the Install and manage apps in the App Center page. When installing, select All Courses for scope and restrict access to Course admins only.

After installation, click Configure for the eSchoolPlus SIS Attendance app and fill out the form:

  • Custom URL: Enter the Attendance Entry URL from the LTI Clients configuration page in eSchoolPlus.

  • Consumer Key and Shared Secret: Enter the Consumer ID and Consumer Secret from the LTI Clients configuration page in eSchoolPlus.

  • Custom Parameters: Enter the following:

    • courseSection=$CourseSection.sourceSectionId

    • If matching the Schoology username to a value other than the eSchoolPlus username (Username, State Staff ID, Staff ID, or first part of the email), also add: uniqueid=$com.schoology.User.uniqueId

The eSchoolPlus SIS Attendance app supports customized attendance layouts. If your organization has customized the Teacher Access Center (TAC) attendance page, those customizations are also available in the app.

Limitations

  • Only courses synced from eSchoolPlus SIS to Schoology are supported. Manually created or CSV-imported courses display an error when instructors access Attendance.

  • Cross-listed sections are not fully supported. Only students in the target section may display. If multiple sections meet at the same time for the same instructor, enable Show Multiple Classes in Attendance Settings to display students from those sections together.

  • Taking attendance by homeroom is not supported.

  • Students belonging to a synced course section appear in the attendance list even if their school has not been synced to Schoology. They do not appear elsewhere in the course until their school is synced or they are manually added.
