Turnitin LTI tool

Use this page to install and configure the Turnitin LTI tool for your organization. Installation adds Turnitin as an external tool provider, making Originality Reports and GradeMark available to instructors across all courses.

Turnitin can be installed at the system level (covers all courses) or at the course level by individual instructors who have their own licensing credentials

Requirements

  • A Turnitin LTI license for your organization.

  • Consumer key and shared secret provided by Turnitin.

  • A region-specific URL from Turnitin, unique per building where Turnitin is being installed:

    • US: https://api.turnitin.com/api/lti/1p0/assignment

    • UK: https://turnitinuk.com/api/lti/1p0/assignment

System-level installation (system administrators)

To add Turnitin as an external tool provider, refer to the Install external tool providers page. When filling out the form, use the following values:

  • Tool Name: The name you want displayed to your instructors. If adding multiple licenses, label each clearly, such as High School Turnitin, Middle School Turnitin, or English Department Turnitin and Political Science Department Turnitin.

  • Consumer Key: Your organization's Turnitin consumer key.

  • Shared Secret: Your organization's Turnitin shared secret.

  • Privacy: The amount of user information you want to send to Turnitin from Schoology.

  • Configuration Type: Manual

  • Match By: URL

  • Domain/URL: Your organization's region-specific Turnitin URL. A unique URL is required per building.

After installation and configuration, the Turnitin external tool is automatically available in each course. Instructors can access it from a course by selecting Course Options and choosing External Tool Providers.

Course-level installation (instructors)

Instructors can install Turnitin at the course level without a system admin if they have the licensing information from Turnitin:

  1. From a course, select Course Options and choose External Tool Providers.

  2. Select Add an External Tool Provider.

  3. Enter the external tool provider details using the same values as the system-level integration.

  4. Select Submit.

Limitations

  • A unique Domain/URL is required for each building where Turnitin is installed. Contact Turnitin for this information.

  • Credentials must be obtained from Turnitin directly.
