Manage system-wide grading scales

System administrators can create percentage and point-based grading scales that will immediately appear in every course within your organization. This feature provides a simpler way to establish system-wide consistency.

Create a system-wide grading scale

  1. Select Tools and choose School Management.

  2. Select Grade Settings.

  3. Select Grading Scales.

  4. Click Add Scale.

  5. Choose if the scale will be based on percentages or points.

  6. Enter a Scale Name.

  7. Optionally, if the scale is based on percentages:

    • Select Only show letter grade to hide the numeric value from students (optional).

    • Select Use Average to average the grades.

  8. Enter the level details and choose a corresponding Color.

  9. Optionally, select Add Level to enter additional level details.

  10. Click Save Changes.

Edit a system-wide grading scale

Editing a grading scale from Grading Scales within Grade Settings will affect the grading scale in courses where it's currently used. If this action is unfavorable, create a new grading scale.

  1. Select Tools and choose School Management.

  2. Select Grade Settings.

  3. Select Grading Scales.

  4. Select the scale’s gear icon and choose Edit.

  5. Edit the grading scale details.

  6. Click Save Changes.

Delete a system-wide grading scale

If a grading scale is associated with graded items in a course, it cannot be deleted until those associations are removed. To prevent a grading scale from being used in new courses while preserving it for past courses, set its status to Inactive.

  1. Select Tools and choose School Management.

  2. Select Grade Settings.

  3. Select Grading Scales.

  4. Select the scale’s gear icon and choose Delete.

  5. Select Delete.
