Import courses into Schoology using a CSV or XLS file. Course imports can create courses and sections, associate courses with schools and grading periods, and update existing course information.
Schoology is optimized to process imports and exports between 7 PM and 6 AM Eastern Time (ET) or 11 PM and 10 AM Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), Monday through Sunday.
For best performance, perform or schedule imports, exports, and bulk deletions during these hours.

Course and section identifiers
Course imports require a Course Code and either a Section Code or Section School Code. These identifiers are used to create, update, and export courses and sections.
Course Code
A Course Code uniquely identifies a course. Course Codes must be unique across schools and grading periods. After a section is created, it cannot be moved to a different course by changing the Course Code.
Section Code
A Section Code identifies a section within a course and grading period. They must be unique within the course and grading period. The same Course Code and Section Code combination can be reused for different grading periods.
Section School Code
A Section School Code uniquely identifies a section across all courses, schools, and grading periods. Imports use Section School Codes to locate and update existing sections.
Import considerations
Grading periods
Use Select Periods to associate all imported courses with one or more grading periods configured in the Grade Settings area of School Management.
Alternatively, select Use Import File to map grading period values in the CSV or XLS file to grading periods in Schoology.
If a grading period contains sub-periods, map the import file to the parent grading period. For example, mapping a file to a year-long grading period automatically associates imported courses with related semester and quarter sub-periods.
If your grading structure includes semester grading periods with quarter sub-periods, include only the semester grading periods in the import file and map them to the year-long grading period during import. Imported courses are associated with both the semester grading periods and their related quarter sub-periods
Schools
If your Schoology account contains more than one school, a School field is available during the import process. The selected school associates all imported courses with that school.
To associate courses with different schools, include a School column in the import file and select Use Import File from the Schools menu.
If the Schools field is not available, all imported courses are associated with the current school.
Updating existing records
Select Update Existing Records to locate existing course sections and update information from the import file. Schoology uses the Course Code and Section Code or Section School Code to identify existing records.
Importing an empty column does not remove existing information from Schoology.
To update grading periods through an import, the section must use a Section School Code. Sections that use a Section Code require grading period updates to be made manually.
