Configure the system-level settings, privacy overrides, and permissions that control how parent accounts behave in Schoology. These settings are available to system administrators only.

Manage parent account settings.

Default parent account options
Parent accounts include the parent's personal account and their student’s account. Use this setting to determine which account parents land on when they log in.

Parent access options
Determine what student activity parents can access in Schoology.

Parent email digest
Parent accounts include a periodic email digest that summarizes their child's activity on Schoology. Control the default setting for new parent accounts.

Select On to automatically enroll new parent accounts in the email digest.

Select Off to exclude new parent accounts from the digest by default.

This setting only controls the default for new accounts. If a parent opts into the digest from their own notification settings, they will receive it regardless of this setting.

Default Group Parent/Visitor Settings
These settings function the same way as the course parent/visitor settings. When configuring group settings, consider the purpose of the group. Groups are typically used for community-wide communication, so visibility of comments and posts may be important.

Select Permissions.

From the Access section of Users, assign the following permission as needed:

View user parents/children
This permission enables users in a specified role to see parent and child associations.

From the Email section of Users, assign the following permission as needed:

Use app.schology.com in emails
If parents will be logging into Schoology via app.schoology.com, rather than via your custom subdomain, this permission ensures that they can open links included in the email notifications they receive.
