Parents can send messages to other parents or students in Schoology, depending on account-level privacy settings. System-wide permissions and privacy overrides also determine who can send and receive messages.
Update privacy settings
Each user controls their own messaging availability through their account privacy settings. Organizational privacy overrides may restrict the available options.
-
Click your name in the header and select Settings.
-
Select Privacy Settings.
-
Adjust your Messaging privacy to the preferred level.
-
Select Save Changes.
Configure messaging permissions
System Admins can configure role-based messaging permissions to control which users can send and receive messages.
-
Select Tools and choose User Management.
-
Select Permissions.
-
Scroll to the Users section of the Permissions page.
-
From the Messaging permissions for Users, select Send private messages to non-faculty to allow users to send messages to other parents and students. Alternatively, clear the setting to prevent the Parent role from messaging students and parents.
-
Select Save permissions.
System-wide permissions and privacy overrides take precedence over individual account privacy settings.
