Configure messaging permissions
Configure messaging permissions to control which roles can start conversations and the users they can contact within Messaging.

From the main navigation menu, select Admin and choose Messaging settings.

Select the Message permissions tab.

From SMS configuration, enable Allow active users to receive. When disabled, active users cannot receive SMS messages.

For each role, enable Allow messaging as needed.

From Communicate with staff, select the level of access the role should have when communicating with staff members.

In Communicate with students and guardians, select the level of access the role should have when communicating with students and guardians.

Click Save.
Communication access settings control who can start a conversation. Users can always reply to conversations they receive.

Users can start conversations across the district. |

Users can start conversations within their assigned school or schools. |

Enrollment-based |
Users can start conversations only with users connected through enrollment relationships. Users assigned Enrollment-based access must have enrollment relationships to start conversations. If no enrollment relationships exist, they can only reply to conversations they receive. |

Reply only |
Users cannot start conversations but can reply to conversations they receive. |
