Deliver Online Assessments Through Schoology
Schoology and Performance Matters offer an integration that allows instructors to access, preview, and add Performance Matters assessments to their Schoology courses. Students can access and take these assessments directly within Schoology. This integration of Performance Matters and Schoology provides easier access and a seamless experience for instructors and students.
If your organization uses Schoology and you are interested in this integration, contact your Administrative Lead who can submit a Support ticket to request this integration.
Performance Matters assessments are not supported on the Schoology mobile apps. Instructors and students should use desktop or mobile web browsers instead.
Add Performance Matters Assessments
Instructors can add Performance Matters Assessments to their Schoology courses directly from the Materials page.
- You must make changes to the Online Testing tools settings before adding a Performance Matters assessment to a Schoology course if you want students to have immediate access to those tools.
- If you update the Online Testing tools settings after you release an assessment in Schoology, the tools will not be available for tests in progress. You must refresh the Online Testing test cache and reload the test before the updated tools are available.
Choose Courses from the main navigation, then select the desired course.
Choose Materials.
Click Add Materials, then choose Add Common Assessment.
If the Common Assessment option is not available in your course, reach out to your Support Contact.
Optionally, use the Search to locate assessments.
Choose the desired assessments from the list.
Click Preview to review an assessment before adding it to your course. The preview displays in the Performance Matters online assessment format.
For a test to display in the Add Common Assessment modal, it must be available and ready to administer in Assessment Manager.
Click Add to Course. The assessment is available automatically for students to access and take.
You do not have to release the assessment to students as you usually would when assigning assessments in Performance Matters.
When assigning assessments using this workflow, the chosen assessment is the only option available to students in Schoology. This differs from Performance Matters, where all existing assessments are available as options for students.
The assessment is unpublished by default. Click the gear icon.
Choose Publish.
- Optionally, click the gear icon, then choose Edit to make additional changes.
Select Enable Grading to add a due date and other grading information to the assessment. This option enables the scores to be passed back to the Schoology gradebook.
You must select a category if you want to pass grades back to the Schoology gradebook.
- To individually assign the assessment to students, click the Individually Assign option.
Make the necessary selections, then click Save Changes.
Student Display
Students can access Performance Matters assessments from anywhere they can access other graded materials including:
The Materials list in a course.
The Upcoming feed.
The Calendar.
The Notifications feed.
- Within the course, click the assessment title. The student is automatically assigned the assessment and can log in to Performance Matters.
- Students must click the assessment or section name to continue.
- Click Next to begin taking the assessment. Students can access the tools that were enabled for the assessment (listed on the summary screen on the next page).
Performance Matters Assessment Results
- Students must take the assessment directly in Schoology instead of Performance Matters.
- Before students take the assessment, instructors must select the Enable Grading option and select a grading category to pass scores to the Schoology gradebook.
You can review assessment results, including response data and standards scores, directly in Performance Matters reporting. Use the Application icon to easily navigate to Performance Matters from Schoology.
Instructors can grade any manually-scorable items directly in Performance Matters from Online scoring or Score Assignments.
After scoring all items, instructors can also review the overall test score (PE/PP) in the Schoology gradebook. Results for the manually-scored assessments are available in Schoology after approximately 15 minutes. Machine-scored items are available immediately in Schoology.
