Time Spent tracking
Time Spent in Course Analytics is displayed in DD:HH:MM format and rounded down to the nearest minute. For example, 2 minutes 20 seconds displays as 00:00:02.
Tracking behavior
-
Every 60 seconds, Schoology checks whether the user is still active. Tracking stops when they leave the platform.
-
Tracking begins when a student opens a course material and continues while the view remains active.
-
Each continuous view is capped at 15 minutes. A 20-minute session displays as 15 minutes.
-
If you use the Time Limit feature on assessments, Elapsed Time in Grading may differ from Time Spent due to this cap.
Web and mobile web browser
-
Time is tracked while the browser tab with the material is visible on screen, even partially.
-
Tracking stops when the student switches tabs, minimizes the browser, or navigates away from the material.
-
Tracking resumes when the student returns to the tab.
-
If the same material is open in two tabs, time is not counted twice.
iOS and Android app
-
Time is tracked while the app is visible and the student is on the material view.
-
Tracking stops when the student switches apps, puts Schoology in the background, or quits the app.
-
Tracking resumes when the student returns to the app and the material view is still open.
