Course administrator permissions: materials and submissions

As a System Administrator, you can control what course administrators can view and manage in courses by adjusting role permissions.

Each role includes default permissions. You can enable or disable course administration permissions based on the needs of the role.

For example, a Teaching Assistant role might be allowed to review course content but not manage materials, submissions, gradebook settings, or grades.

If a user only needs view-only access to courses across the organization, consider using the View Courses permission instead.

Manage materials

Allows course administrators to:

  • Add and edit course materials

  • Bulk edit materials

  • Add, edit, and copy grading scales and rubrics

If Manage course grade setup is disabled, the rest of the Grade Setup page is view-only.

Manage submissions

  • Review student submissions

  • Comment on student submissions

To enter or edit grades, Manage gradebook must also be enabled.
