Schoology Learning

Roles: overview

Roles determine the type of account assigned to each user. By default, organizations have four roles:

  • Student

  • Teacher

  • Administrator

  • Parent

Use roles to control which features users can access. For example, you can create a role with limited permissions for a specific group of instructors.

  • Each user can have only one role.

  • If your organization syncs users from an SIS, contact your Schoology representative before creating custom roles. SIS syncs may overwrite custom Schoology roles.

Faculty members

Faculty members are users assigned to a role with the Faculty flag enabled.

Typically, Administrator and Teacher roles are faculty roles, while Student and Parent roles are not.

Faculty users can:

  • Receive Schoology messages (if permitted)

  • Access Public Resources

  • Access the App Center

  • Connect with other users

Every role is either Faculty or Non-Faculty.
