Enable and assign section override roles

Before course administrators can be assigned a section override role, system administrators must enable the feature and configure permissions.

Enable section override roles for your organization

  1. As a System Admin, from Tools, choose School Management.

  2. Select Feature Options.

  3. Select Enable section override roles.

  4. Click Save Changes.

Allow course administrators to assign override roles

To allow course administrators to assign section override roles, enable the following permissions in the Courses permission area:

  • Manage roster

  • As a course admin, this role can… Assign section-level roles

To review the permissions included with each section override role, navigate to Manage Users, select Permissions, and then select Section Roles.

Assign section overrides via import

To assign section override roles through a manual or auto-import, add a column for override roles to your import file.

In the Course Enrollments section of the manual import or auto-import settings, enter the CSV values used for the six section override roles in your import file. For example, if Edit Grades / Edit Materials is represented by 1, enter 1 as the CSV value for that role.

Ensure the Override Roles field in Schoology is mapped to the correct column in the import file.

Section override roles can only be assigned to course administrators. Users enrolled as course members cannot be assigned a section override role.
