Schoology Learning

Administration settings permissions

Administration settings give users access to administer areas of Schoology from a school or system-wide level. We recommend limiting these permissions to System Admin and other key faculty at the school or organization.

User Administration

  • Administer users

    • Enabled: Gives permission to access the Manage Users area of User Management.

    • Disabled: The Manage Users area is not accessible for this role.

  • If a user with this permission is associated with the school district/parent organization, the user will have access to manage all users, roles, and permissions in the school district or organization. If the user is associated with a school building or organization building, the user will only have access to the Manage Users area for that particular building. Additionally, users associated with a building may only manage and create users in their own building; they do not have access to adjust roles or permissions.

  • This permission is enabled by default for the System Admin role, and it cannot be disabled.

System Administration

    • View courses

      • Enabled: Gives permission to review all courses in the school. While the user may not be enrolled in the courses, they'll have view-only access to all courses in the school(s) with which they are associated.

      • Disabled: The role can only see courses in which they are enrolled.

    • Administer courses

      • Enabled: Gives permission to administer all courses in the school with the ability to act as the course admin. If associated with the school district/parent organization, the user will have full access to all courses in all school and organization buildings.

      • Disabled: The role cannot administer courses they are not enrolled in.

      • Prerequisite permissions: View courses

    • Administer groups

      • Enabled: Gives permission to administer all groups in the school with the ability to act as the group admin. If associated with the school district/parent organization, the user will have full access to all groups in all buildings.

      • Disabled: The role cannot administer groups they are not enrolled in.

      • Prerequisite permissions: View courses

    • Administer school

      • Enabled: Gives permission to access System Settings, School Analytics, Import, and Export features by selecting School Management from the Tools menu.

      • Disabled: School Management features are not accessible for this role.

      • Prerequisite permissions: View courses

If a user with the Administer school permission is associated with the school district/parent organization, the user will have full access to all areas. If associated with a school building, the user will only have access to the School Analytics for that particular building. Additionally, if the user doesn't also have permission to administer courses and groups, they will not have the ability to import or export courses and groups.

This permission is enabled by default for the System Admin role, and it cannot be disabled.

  • Administer comments

    • Enabled: Gives permission to edit or remove comments (responses) posted by any user in courses, groups, or the school they administer.

    • Disabled: The role cannot edit or remove other users' comments.

  • Administer blog posts

    • Enabled: Gives permission to edit, unpublish, or delete blog posts created by any user in the school they administer.

    • Disabled: The role cannot manage other users' blog posts.

  • Administer applications

    • Enabled: Gives permission to install apps that require configuration at the school level. It also gives permission to install and configure apps at the school level.

    • Disabled: The role cannot install or configure school-level apps.

Advisor Setting

  • Advisor Access

    • Enabled: Gives access to the Advisees tab without having to be associated with advisees in the Parents/Advisors tab.

    • Disabled: The Advisees tab is not accessible unless the user is directly associated with advisees.

If a user with this permission is associated with the school district/organization, the user can search for any user in the school district or organization. If the user is associated with a specific school building, the user can only search for users in their associated buildings.

This permission is enabled by default for the System Admin role, and it cannot be disabled.
